Our story of Mabel Vickers pottery workshops and gifts

Welcome to Mabel Vickers, a quaint, quietly creative place nestled at 271 College Street in Palmerston North in the heart of Manawatū. Once my husband’s grandma’s beloved plant shop, this space now carries her name as a tribute to the warmth, joy and sense of home she brought to everyday life.

I’m Fiona, the maker behind Table Ceramics and the heart behind Mabel Vickers. What began as a hobby and creative outlet has gently grown into something a little bigger. A studio, a gift shop and a place to slow down and reconnect through clay.

Mabel Vickers isn’t a big business. It’s a part-time passion project run with love and intention. I run the studio alongside other commitments which means it’s not about scaling fast or chasing profits. It’s about sharing the simple joy of making, connecting with others and creating a space that feels good to be in.

Inside the shop, you’ll find a carefully chosen collection of gifts. Some from beautiful local New Zealand brands, some from further afield and many handmade right here. My own ceramics, under the name Table Ceramics, are shaped by hand in small batches. Each piece embraces organic forms, soft earthy tones and the quiet beauty of imperfection. You’ll also find a small collection of porcelain slip cast works. Some painted by hand, others created as kits for you to paint yourself.

Our pottery workshops are relaxed and beginner friendly, rooted in slab building techniques that reflect the style of my own work. They’re an invitation to unwind, play with clay and make something meaningful with your hands. No experience needed, just a willingness to enjoy.

Whether you’re browsing for a thoughtful gift, adding to your collection or eager to try pottery, Mabel Vickers is about connecting through creativity and celebrating the art of beautiful functional pieces. Rooted in place, history and community, it’s a space to slow down, find joy in craftsmanship and support local makers. Whether you visit to shop, learn or simply soak in the atmosphere, my hope is you leave feeling inspired and connected to something uniquely beautiful.
